Janet Lee Hobson received her pre-professional training starting at the Washington Contemporary Ballet ,​ Tacoma, WA.​ ​A family move landed her in Norfolk, Virginia where she then trained at The Norfolk State University African and Modern Dance Company.

Continuing her education she traveled to many states educating herself to enhance her dance ability. She then found her way to Ohio and joined the Dove Project Modern Dance Company where she soon landed a role as a principal dancer. Soon ​after, ​she land​ed​ roles as background dancers for various recording artists, and music videos, as well as booking tours, such as the Black Street Reunion Tour. Broadening her horizons in dance she then began choreography work for recording artists, as well as instruction for competition cheer and dance teams.

She has instructed in Columbus, OH at the Academy of Urban Dance as well as the Academy of Champions East in Mt. Pleasant, TX. Her most recent p​position​ was at Maureen’s School of Dance​, also co​a​ching their competition team “Spotlight Dancers @Maureen’s” w​ith whom​ she won ​numerous​ competition awards i​n​cluding multiple choreography awards...still winning for them this competition season. ​Miss Janet​ is also the co-founding coordinator for Norfolk State University’s Marching Spartan Legion Band’s Auxiliary/Dance group “Accent” and guest choreographer for their dance line “Hot Ice”. Along with her dance work there she ​was ​also the​ ​physical fitness coach for the entire Marching Band.

Currently new to the area, she is a youth gymnastic, yoga and dance instructor and is enjoying her new family here at The James School! This is Janet's second year with the James School of the Dance Arts.
